The Brother Company was established in 1908 in Japan as a sewing machine company by Kanekichi Yasui, originally named Yasui Sewing Machine Co. In 1941 the company established Brother Sales Ltd and started distributing sewing machines to the Japanese market on a large production scale. By 1954 Brother International Corporation was established to export these sewing machines, as well as knitting and home appliances overseas. In 1961 they started moving into the market of business machines and by 1971 they launched the world's first high speed dot matrix printer. During the 70's, 80's and 90's Brother Industries starting moving into other areas such as telecommunication equipment, electronic stationery, typewriters, machine tools, content-delivery systems and karaoke systems. Today Brother is known mostly for their superior communication and printing equipment with sales and manufacturing facilities in over 40 countries. In 2008 they celebrated their 100th birthday and are also known as the oldest and most eminent printer company in the world receiving several top awards for their products.
